Where we work
For children who need counselling, having to come out of school to go to a clinic or a private counsellor on a regular basis can feel disruptive and present parents with problems of transport, taking time off work, and perhaps feeling a little stigmatised.
Counselling in Schools sees children in their own school. This means they miss a minimum of their lesson-time and activities. We arrange with the school for a suitably private room for the counselling to take place in. We also arrange, with teachers, the most appropriate time for the counselling to occur. Sometimes teachers ask us if the process is upsetting and wonder if the child will need some “time out” after their counselling so they can recover sufficiently before returning to class. Our experience tells us this is not needed very often. In fact, we think that counselling taking place in school helps many children feel more comfortable and able to settle more quickly back into their school activities..
Our counselling work takes place in Kent, Essex, Sussex and Surrey, in primary and secondary schools and other appropriate organisations. Our consultation and training work is available internationally.
